Is The City Exempt From All Sorts of Things?
The other day I was reading through the Red Line at the Madera Tribune's website and I came across a posting from a lady upset with the city's own watering policy. She said there was water flowing from one of the many new city islands through out the town into the street and questioned whether the city should fine itself for being a water waster. That got me to wonder how many other things did the city do on a regular bases that you and I would get threatening warning letters or even fines for?

"Daddy Why Are All My Principals Leaving My School?"
The other day I was lying on the couch when my six year old daughter came up and asked, “Daddy why are all my Principals leaving my school?” You see she is a first grader at John
Adams Elementary School. Her principal, Andy Beakes, was just promoted to principal of Madera South High School. Her vice principal Kathy Horn was reassigned to the classroom at Dixieland Elementary because of budget cuts. With Mr. Beakes being promoted, I would think it would make sense to promote the vice principal considering all the experience Mrs. Horn brings to John Adams. More

The Dog Report: Keeping Government Open Keeps Government Honest
Despite what you might think our county government sometimes doesn't believe the Brown Act or the Public Records Act applies in Madera. As a reporter working in a new medium I have sometimes met resistance to accessing public records. I know of two people who have been threatened with banishment from the Government Center by county counsel for asking for too many public records. Well thanks to Dale Drozen's DOG Report, now there is someone in the Government Center demanding open government. The DOG Report will update on Madera Online on a semi-regular bases.

Hey Recycling Isn't That Hard Blue Cans Arrive in Madera
A few years ago when the city forced us to ditch our own trash cans for these grey and green mammoth receptacles I was not all that happy. Our trash pick up was cut in half to one day a week and we were now limited to one can household trash and one can of yard waste.
