MERCED - Police Detectives were traveling behind a vehicle (2007, Saturn, Ion) that had a Department of Justice (DOJ) notification to stop the vehicle as it was listed as being involved in a felony carjacking and vehicle theft crime in Stanislaus County. Detectives following the vehicle obtained conformation information through their police dispatcher of the DOJ stop on the vehicle.

Detectives activated the emergency lights and siren of their patrol vehicle to stop the suspect, but instead of stopping, the suspect increased the speed of the vehicle, trying to elude the police. Subsequently while traveling east bound in the 1400 Block of W/N Bear Creek, the suspect lost control of the car and collided into the front of a UC Merced commuter bus that was travelling west bound in the 1400 Block of Bear Creek Drive.

FRESNO – The Fresno Police Department is issuing a warning as it has received numerous reports of Identity Theft and Account Takeovers in recent months. Law enforcement nationwide is overwhelmed with identity theft and fraud crimes. Fresno is no exception. The account takeover has become a significant method of identity theft in Fresno.

Account takeovers occur when a criminal obtains your existing credit card or bank account information, and then attaches themselves to those accounts. The criminal gets name and Social Security number, and, with a little Internet research, they can learn enough about you to run your credit report for you. Once they have this, they know your bank and credit account numbers. All they have to do then is go shopping with your credit cards. You will find out about this when you get your bill.

Another Exclusive Big Valley News Editorial: Monday I was reading the Letters to the Editor section of the Madera Tribune and local judge Charles Wieland decided to write an endorsement of Joseph Soldani for Madera County Superior Court Judge.

I always thought judges tried to avoid local politics and hold themselves to a higher standard by never slinging mud. It surprised me that a sitting judge would write a letter that was so slamming of a man that has only put himself out there to serve his country and community. But what surprised me the most was how something written by that same sitting judge could be so libelous?
