Baseball Great Gus Zernial Dies at 87 Print E-mail

Fresno – Former major league baseball star Gus Zernial died Thursday afternoon at the age of 87. In the 50’s he was a force at the plate in the American League winning the Triple Crown and smacking 237 dingers in his 11 year career. In the 70’s he was the sportscaster for KFSN Channel 30 in Fresno, then in retirement became a longtime ambassador for the Fresno Grizzlies, the Triple A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.

- If you are a fan of Facebook you have probably ran across a group on the web site who claims they are interested in helping the children of our local schools with purchasing supplies for the classroom. Madera Unified District PTA is a Facebook group created by an employee of Madera County Mental Health Department, Lynn Cogdill.

Cogdill is a candidate for the Madera Unified School District Board of Trustees District 2 as he returned his paperwork to the Madera County Clerks Office Friday afternoon. Realtor Edward McIntyre is also a declared candidate for the seat currently held by Phillip Jansen. McIntyre is the husband of former Madera County Supervisor Gail Hanhart-McIntyre.

Chairman of Yosemite Motor Speedway Convicted of Fraud in New Mexico Print E-mail

MADERA - Investors were shocked to learn of the criminal past of head of the Yosemite Motor Speedway. Madera Online has uncovered forty-five pages of documents that show that the chairman of the racetrack's board of directors faced seventeen counts of fraud, two counts of racketeering and two attempted 3rd degree felonies in New Mexico less than ten years ago.

After a mistrial and a hung jury, Jerry Lowrie agreed to a plea-bargain deal in which he plead guilty to two counts of fraud. Both counts came with an 18-month prison sentence which was to be served consecutively and one year of state parole.

Madera - Love him or hate him, no one can say Randy Blankenship has not made a difference with the Madera High School football program. When Randy came to Madera I supported our former head football coach Mike Anderson.

A group of people lead by the late Mike Young, former chief academic officer for Madera Unified brought Randy to Madera to force out Coach Anderson. Young and others sabotaged Anderson's program and turned student-athletes against the former coach.
