Bulldog Stadium - After a season of shooting themselves in the foot game after game the Fresno State Bulldogs took a bullet between the eyes in their loss to the San Jose Spartans Saturday night. A team that hasn’t won a game in Bulldogs Stadium since 1987 came into the dog house and spanked Fresno State 27-24 in front of a record low attendance.

Fresno
State
was first to score in the first half with a Robbie Rouse touchdown and Kevin Goessling after point kick. Then Goessling became the all time scoring kicker in Bulldog history with a 39 yard field goal to put the Dogs up by ten. Goessling missed a second field goal attempt from the 49 yard line before San Jose field goal and touchdown knotted the game at ten. Then Rouse ran another one in with five seconds left in the half to put the Dogs back up by seven.

In the second half San Jose came on strong to hit a 34 yard field goal and a Jabari Carr 38 yard touchdown pass from former Fresno State back up quarterback now Spartan starter Matt Faulkner to take the lead 20-17. In the fourth quarter Noel Grigsby took an 18 yard pass into the end-zone to put San Jose up by ten.

Fresno State would score one more time in the fourth quarter but a controversial “pass interference” call near the end of the game would allow San Jose to run out the clock and give the school only its second win against Fresno in the last 15 years.

This was not the way Fresno State had imagined Senior Night. It was expected that this would be the last time 15 seniors including Zak Hill would run out of the tunnel onto the field. Was this also the last night Pat Hill would run out onto Jim Sweeny Field as Fresno State’s head football coach?

After Saturday’s game in San Diego Coach Hill is scheduled to have a meeting with Fresno State Athletic Director Thomas Boeh to discuss the season and the programs future. With the poor attendance in the stands this season from the Red Wave and the poor showing of the team on the field, could this be the end of the Pat Hill era at Fresno State?

Only time will tell. A Facebook group was formed over the last couple weeks FIRE PAT HILL. Fans are screaming for his head on radio talk shows. But Pat Hill is not talking.
