FRESNO - After a three game winning drought, a drought that even cost Fresno State it's two year at home winning streak, the Bulldog's are back to their winning ways as they now head into Mountain West Conference play.

Saturday night at Bulldog Stadium, Fresno State met the Thunderbirds of Southern Utah University.  At first it looked like the T-birds were going to put up a fight with Southern Utah drawing first blood in the second quarter with a field goal, then a quick answer to a Fresno State touchdown. But then the Bulldogs went on a 35 straight unanswered point run through the remainder of the second quarter and through-out the third quarter that the Thunderbirds couldn't come back from.

When the Bulldogs started substituting players in the fourth quarter, the T-birds moved the ball 97 yards in four plays for their final score of the game. But the Bulldog replacements showed that they could also score and did two more times in the fourth to bring the final score to 56-19.

Fresno State rushed for 389 yards averaging 7.2 yards per rush. In the air the T-birds threw for 318 yards, compared to the Bulldogs 305.  Fresno's quarterbacks were 22-38 with one interception and averaged 13.9 yards per completion.

In the fight for the starting quarterback position, Brian Burrell was 13 for 20 and threw for 145 yards with his longest pass being 40 yards. While he did give up one interception, he also threw two of the Bulldogs touchdowns. Brandon Connette was 5 for 11 and only threw for 52 yards. Freshman quarterback Zack Greenlee finished up the game with 109 yards in the air, his longest pass 81 yards and also hit his mark in the end-zone for his first Fresno State touchdown.

"I am really pleased with the effort of our guys tonight," said head coach Tim DeRuyter, "I didn't think that we started off very well, but we hung in there and we found a way to win."

The Dogs head to New Mexico next Friday to open up Mountain West play. Fresno State is defending a two straight year conference championship. They return home October 3rd for a Friday night game against a tough San Diego State team. Tickets are still available at the Bulldog Ticket Office or by calling (559) 278-DOGS. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.GoBulldogs.com.
