Downtown West American Bank Held Up - Suspect Flees on City Bus Print E-mail

FRESNO - On Monday, May 11, 2015, at 10:52 am, Southwest patrol, and a Downtown Bike Unit from the Fresno Police Department, were dispatched a hold up alarm at West America Bank, 2440 Tulare Street, in Downtown Fresno. Upon arrival, officers were told a bank robbery just occurred and they canvassed the area for the suspect with negative results.

Officers also received unconfirmed information that the assailant possibly fled the scene on a bus. Some buses in the area were checked for the suspect but he was not located on any of the buses.

The synopsis of the bank robbery is that the suspect entered the bank and walked up to a teller. He demanded money from the teller in specific denominations and when questioned by the teller he forcefully repeated his demands.

The teller feared for her safety and provided the suspect between $500 and $1,000 in cash. The suspect took the cash and departed on foot southbound on O Street from the bank. He was last observed in the area of Kern and M Streets.

The suspect is described as an African-American male in his mid- 40’s, medium complexion, 6’0” to 6’3” in height, medium to heavy build, shaved head, wearing a grey cardigan-type sweater, black pants, and a beige baseball cap.

Any citizen in the community that can identify this suspect is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 498-STOP where the citizen can receive a cash reward and remain anonymous for information provided leading to an arrest.
