Madera Gang Member Sentenced to Life for Murder Print E-mail

MADERA - Judge James A. Oakley sentenced Juan Carlos Amezcua, to 40 years to life in state prison for the murder of Victor Raqueno, according to Michael R. Keitz, District Attorney for Madera County.

Amezcua, 21, of Madera, was convicted by a Madera Superior Court jury on March 20th, 2012, of second degree murder and actively participating in a criminal street gang. In addition, the jury found special allegations including: murder for the benefit of a criminal
street gang, personal use of a firearm, and street terrorism.

Wanted Parolee Arrested For Burglary Of Elementary School Print E-mail

FRESNO COUNTY - Sheriff Margaret Mims today announced the arrest of a Caruthers man wanted in connection with the burglary of Caruthers Elementary School.  Arrested was 32 year old Jeff Lee Swetnam.

Early yesterday morning, shortly after midnight, deputies were dispatched to the school located at 13699 S Quince Ave after the alarm company reported a silent alarm and possible break in to one of the class rooms.

Schnoor Avenue Closed Off Friday Night For Solo Vehicle Crash Print E-mail

MADERA -  Madera Police closed off a section of Schnoor Avenue near Cleveland Avenue Friday night when a woman drover her car into a tree over the sidewalk.

Sergeant Tom Burns believes the woman was traveling approximately 40 miles an hour just past Bally's Fitness when she lost control of her Saturn Vue slamming into the tree just missing the brick wall that surrounds a housing subdivision.

Funding Falls Through For Club Yes & Key Visions at Madera Unified Print E-mail

"Arredondo was hell bent on getting rid of Club Yes at MUSD for two years" - Trustee Lynn Cogdill

MADERA
-  Over 19,000 students from the Madera Unified School will have no where to go but home after school next year. The school district, which made a move to take over the successful Club Yes and Key Vision programs operated by the Madera County Office of Education, was turned down for state funding for the 2012-13 school year.

According to a county source, "MUSD was making a grab to collect the 10% administrative fees of the $2.6 million grant for their budget instead of letting the county continue with their programs. Now both programs are dead."
