CLOVIS - Legendary Clovis West coach Randy Blankenship led the Aptos Mariners to an amazing fourth-quarter comeback against the Clovis East scoring 21 unanswered points before the Timberwolves held on for a 30-28 non-conference win Friday night at Lamonica Stadium.

The game was Central Coast Section versus Central Section. It was the smaller Division III Mariners against Division I Clovis East. But in the end, the Mariners more than held their own against a much larger school that plays in the powerful Tri-River Athletic Conference, regarded as one of the best in the state.

Oh, but if not for the turnovers.
