FRESNO - David's denied dream is Derek's destiny as the younger Carr brother does what his brother could not. In 2001 Fresno State's quarterback Derek Carr was ten years old and his older brother was the talk of the nation as Fresno State's star quarterback. He was talked up as a Heisman Trophy candidate, there was speculation about the possibility of a Fresno State perfect season and the older Carr was on the front page of Sports Illustrated Magazine. Then following a 25-22 win against Colorado State University, Boise State ended all that with a 35-30 loss at home. When the younger brother came to Fresno State, Derek's goal was to avenge his brother's loss and beat the Bronco's of Boise State.

MADERA - What a difference a bye week makes. With the necessary time to learn from its week one loss, the Madera Coyotes got their offense fine-tuned and the defense swarming to the ball in a 30-6 victory over the Pirates of Reedley High School at Memorial Stadium on Friday night.

With their first possession of the game the Coyotes drove 67 yards in 10 plays to score on a one yard run by quarterback Nathaniel Nelson. The extra point by Andrew Alvarez made the score 7-0. On Reedley’s second possession of the game Greg Quesada ran 40 yards for the Pirates only score of the night to make the score 7-6. After both teams failed to mount any serious offense threats, Madera’s defense tallied a safety, by Steve Gonzalez, on a bad snap to the Reedley punter, making the score 9-6.
