Shooting on Avenue 7 Puts One in Jail Print E-mail

MADERA - At about 8:00 Thursday morning, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding a vehicle collision and an associated shooting on Avenue 7 between Road 24 and Road 25. CHP had initially received the call of a vehicle collision. When they arrived on scene, they found a female occupant of one of the vehicles had been shot, and that the suspect had crashed his vehicle and fled the scene.

Sheriff’s Deputies along with CHP Officers including H40, established a perimeter around the location of the incident. Several other agencies were called to assist including Fresno Sheriff’s Office K9 units, Madera PD officers from their Special Investigations Unit, and the Madera County DA’s Office investigators.

Sanger Canal Drowning Victim Identified Print E-mail

SANGER - The Fresno County Sheriff - Coroner’s Office has released the name of the man who drowned Monday evening. He is Cody Merk, 26, of Sanger. At 6:00 pm on Monday, deputies responded to the 17400 block of E. McKinley Ave. in Sanger for a report of an injured person.

Cody Merk was swimming in Enterprise Canal with two of his younger relatives. As he was walking around in the water, the strong current pulled him under and then pushed him up to the surface. As Merk floated downstream. his relatives tried to pull him out of the water, but were unable to, so they ran approximately a ½ mile to a house and called for help.

Family Food Market Clerk Shoots Criminal Print E-mail

FRESNO - Officers from the Fresno Police Department were dispatched Friday afternoon to the Family Food Market on 1100 block of Belmont Avenue regarding a shooting inside the market. Upon arrival at the market, officers located 28-year-old Marcus Hardin who was suffering from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen.

He was laying on the floor of the business near the front counter. He was complaining of pain to his abdomen from the wound. The clerk of the store was also present and was behind the front counter. No other people were in the store when officers arrived on scene. Hardin was immediately rushed to CMRC for treatment of his gunshot wound.

Amtrak Verses Pedestrian Fatality Print E-mail

FRESNO - On Friday, June 29, 2016, at 3:31 PM, officers from the Fresno Police Department were dispatched to a train versus pedestrian accident at Belmont Avenue and Diana Street. Upon arrival, officers found a 47-year-old male laying next to the railroad tracks along Diana Street approximately 100 yards south of Belmont Avenue.

The subject was suffering from significant life-threatening injuries all over his body. He had severe head trauma and several compound fractures. He was rushed to CRMC where he unfortunately died at 4:25 PM.

Marijuana Plants and Guns Seized in Squaw Valley Print E-mail

SQUAW VALLEY - On Tuesday, July 26th, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Narcotics Enforcement Team, California Department of Fish and Wildlife and members of the California Army National Guard served search warrants at three different locations in Squaw Valley. Two of the properties were along the 37000 block of San Creek Road and the other was on the 37000 block of Shadybrook Lane.

A total of 1,353 marijuana plants were seized, along with 18 ½ lbs. of dried marijuana and 19 guns. Detectives arrested three people and booked them into the Fresno County Jail for felony cultivation of marijuana and possession of marijuana with the intent to sell it.

Deli Delicious: Gourmet Deli Sandwiches Come to Madera's West-Side Print E-mail

MADERA - Gourmet deli sandwiches can now be found on Madera's West-side as the latest Deli Delicious opened it's doors Thursday morning on Howard Road. With bread baked daily and trip-tip and chicken cooked on site, employees spent most of the morning preparing those and other fresh ingredients for the premier deli sandwiches they would serve to their guests.
 

The Howard Road location shares the same franchisee as Madera's other location on West Cleveland Avenue. Hari and Surinder Randhawa. The Randhawa's opened that as their first location in 2014 which was soon followed by another in Merced in January of 2015. With their son Jasdeep overseeing the operation of all their locations, the family run business is looking for other locations to offer Deli Delicious award winning sandwiches in the future.

Man Calls in Hostage Hoax at Schoolhouse Tavern Print E-mail

SANGER  - Around 5:45 pm on Monday, Fresno County Sheriff dispatchers received a call claiming people were being held hostage inside the Schoolhouse Restaurant and Tavern in Sanger. Victoriano  Hernandez (50) of Sanger said his wife had messaged him saying three armed men were attempting to rob the business.

Deputies setup a perimeter and the Fresno County SWAT team was called in.  At 7:30 pm, SWAT used its technological equipment to search the building and found it to be empty.  Members of the FSO Crisis Negotiation Team later made contact with Hernandez' ex-wife, who said she was never being held against her will.
