Man Arrested for DUI and Drug Possession after Passing Out at the Wheel Print E-mail

FRESNO - California Highway Patrol officers have booked Alberto Zamorano, 31, of Fresno into the Fresno County Jail. He faces misdemeanor charges of DUI, drug possession and driving on a suspended license. His bond was set at $11,000 and he posted the necessary amount to bail out of jail.

Around 2:00 am on Sunday, a Fresno County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to check on a pickup truck that was parked in the middle of the roadway, near the railroad tracks at Central and Golden State Blvd. The deputy found Alberto Zamorano passed out and slumped over the steering wheel with the engine still running. The deputy detained Zamorano and observed that he appeared to be drunk.

FRESNO  - The 2016 Spring Showcase for the Fresno State football team is being held Saturday, April 2 and Bulldog Athletics has many entertaining attractions that day to accompany the football team’s last hurrah of spring ball. From the chance to win free season tickets, to a free kids clinic on the field with Bulldog football players, a BBQ and the return of the Bulldog Yard Sale, it all will be happening at Bulldog Stadium.

"It has been an exciting and energetic spring for us and we value every opportunity we get to be out on the field," head coach Tim DeRuyter said. "We would love for the Red Wave to come out and join us in Bulldog Stadium on Saturday. We really feel they will love the product they see out on the field and how hard this team plays. The weather is supposed to be outstanding, we'll have a free kids clinic and I personally would like to see some fans show off their arms and win their season tickets in our throw-to-win contest."

FRESNO - Southwest patrol officers from the Fresno Police Department were dispatched to a bank robbery Monday afternoon at Union Bank, 1458 Kern Street, in Chinatown. A physical description was provided and several officers arrived in the area very quickly to search for the suspect, later identified as James Kelsey, 51 years of age.

As officers were canvassing the neighborhood, the suspect walked out of the Oriental Food Market, 931 E. Street, and officers observed Kelsey matched the description of the bank robbery suspect. Officers detained Kelsey and he was positively identified by victims/witnesses as being the bank robber. He was then placed in custody for bank robbery. The stolen cash, less than $100, was recovered.

FRESNO - On Monday, March 28th, at 8:06 am, Southeast patrol officers were dispatched to the Shell station, 2590 S. Maple Avenue, regarding a stabbing victim at the location. Upon arrival, officers contacted a Hispanic male victim in this 40's suffering from stab wounds to his abdomen. 

The victim, a Bulldog gang member, was not the most cooperative with officers in conveying his story. Officers were able to determine the victim was riding his bicycle on the south side of a small laundromat located in the same lot as the Shell station.

OAKHURST - Shortly after 1100 AM Thursday, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office was called regarding two people who had fallen into Lewis Creek in the Oakhurst area. Deputies responded and immediately went to the victims to try to stabilize them while rescue equipment was brought to the scene.

Deputies learned that a male and a female had been near the creek when the female fell into the water. The male then jumped in after her to try to rescue her. The rescue effort took several hours while rope systems were set up at the edge of the creek to pull the victims out of the fast-moving water.

CHOWCHILLA - Officers from the Chowchilla Police Department and the Special Investigations Unit, which consists of Detectives from the Chowchilla Police Department, Madera Police Department, Madera County Sheriff’s Department and Madera County Probation Department, served multiple search warrants Thursday mornng in the City of Chowchilla. This was in relation to an ongoing investigation of the recent gang related shootings that have occurred in the city.

Five adult males were arrested on various charges related to possession of a loaded concealed firearm in public, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, participation in a criminal street gang, negligent discharge of a firearm, possession of ammunition by prohibited person, possession of methamphetamine and Madera County bench warrants.

FRESNO - Saturday evening Fresno County Sheriff’s correctional officers were serving meals to inmates of the Main Jail. During this time, inmate Charlie Michael Smith ambushed a correctional officer and stabbed him multiple times in the back and head with a weapon he had made in jail.

Assisting correctional officers detained the 33 year old Smith and placed him in a holding cell. The injured correctional officer was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. FSO homicide detectives immediately began an investigation. The motive for this attack has not been determined.
