Bob Bennett Honored and Dogs Pull Off Win in Extra Innings Print E-mail

FRESNO - On an historic night in Fresno State baseball history that saw the Bulldogs stadium dedicated to legendary former head coach Bob Bennett, the Bulldogs used some magic to pull out a 1-0 walk-off win over San Diego State in 10 innings.

In a pregame on-field ceremony that featured the voice of the Bulldogs Paul Loeffler, Athletic Director Jim Bartko, Fresno mayor Ashley Swearengin, former player Bobby Jones and finally Bob Bennett himself, they were joined on the field by hundreds of former players and their families.

Deputies Searching for Man who Kidnapped & Raped a Young Woman Print E-mail

FRESNO - On Wednesday at around 6:30 pm, a 21 year old woman was walking along McKinley Avenue in Fresno, near West Avenue. A man in a pickup truck drove beside her and asked to speak to her through his passenger window.

Once the woman got close to the truck, the suspect pointed a handgun at her and demanded she get in the vehicle. The woman got inside and the suspect drove her approximately four miles away to an orchard on Blythe Avenue, just south of Belmont Avenue. The suspect parked in the orchard and then sexually assaulted the woman while inside the pickup.

Couple Struck by Motorists In Critical Condition Print E-mail

FRESNO - On Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at 3:38 PM, Southwest patrol and traffic officers from the Fresno Police Department were dispatched to a vehicle versus pedestrian accident on Railroad Avenue directly in front of Weir Floway Pumps. The dispatch message also indicated that the pedestrian struck was deceased.

When officers arrived on scene, they located a 48-year-old female and a 47-year-old male with the critical injuries laying in the oleander bushes just east of Railroad Avenue. These victims were treated by emergency medical services at the scene and they were rushed to community regional medical center where they are now in critical condition. Physicians have told officers that their injuries are not life threatening.

Shots Fired Call Results in Suspect Arrested and Gun Recovered Print E-mail

FRESNO - Northwest patrol officers from the Fresno Police Department were dispatched to the 2400 block of North Marty Avenue just before noon yesterday regarding a disturbance at that location where two shots were fired from a gun.

Upon arrival, officers found a dead Persian cat in the front yard of the residence where the disturbance and shots fired occurred. The cat was killed by an American bulldog. Suspect Basilio Garcia, 37 years old, lived at the residence with his mother and the deceased cat belonged to suspect Garcia's mother. Also at the scene was the 20-year-old male victim and his American bulldog which killed the cat.

ACLU Brings Action Against Fresno Bar For Discrimination Print E-mail

FRESNO - The ACLU of Northern California today filed a request for investigation with the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH), urging it to open a probe into "The Brig" a Fresno bar on Blackstone Avenue for civil rights violations. DFEH is the agency charged with enforcing California’s civil rights laws.

The request states that on March 12, the bar applied an unwritten minimum drink rule to Abre’ Conner and Novella Coleman – two ACLU civil rights lawyers, who appeared to be the only Black people in the bar – and not to other customers. It also states that the Brig’s bartender used physical force to try to move Conner, who is 5’3”, out of the bar.

FRESNO - On Friday, April 29, 2016, at 1PM, North East patrol officers were dispatched to Fountain Way and 11th St. regarding a weapons disturbance wherein a brother was cut with a knife after a road rage incident. The dispatch message indicated the suspect took off in a large white van. Emergency medical services were also dispatched to the location along with the police.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 40-year-old Hispanic male victim with a serious stab wound to his left bicep and a puncture wound to his neck. The victims wounds were not life-threatening. The victims brother was also at the location. Emergency medical services arrived and treated the Victim and transported him to community regional medical center for further treatment.

Correctional Officer Avoids Serious Injury Following Inmate Attack: Suspect Found Hung in Cell Days Later Print E-mail

FRESNO - A Fresno County Sheriff’s correctional officer (CO) was conducting routine cell checks Sunday afternoon inside one of the jail’s pods. Once the correctional turned to leave through a door, inmate Daniel Telles attacked him.

The 27 year old Telles used a jail made weapon to stab the officer behind his left ear. The injured officer took Telles to the ground and restrained him until assisting officers arrived and placed him in a holding cell. The CO was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. His injury did not require stitches and he has since been released from the hospital. He has worked as an FSO correctional officer since March 2016.
