Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer and Superintendant Michael Hanson release Joint Statement on Arrest of Hoover High School Teacher

FRESNO – Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer and Fresno Unified School District Superintendant Michael Hanson announced the arrest of Hoover High School Teacher Megan Denman for having sex with a student.

On Monday, April 9th, Detectives from the Fresno Police Department arrested Hoover High School Teacher Megan Denman, 29 of Fresno for one count of PC 261.5.C (Sex with a minor 3+ years younger than suspect, a felony), and two counts of PC 288a(b)(1) (Oral Copulation with a person under 18, also a felony).

 

Denman was booked into Fresno County Jail that same day. The ongoing investigation has revealed that Denman was engaged an inappropriate relationship with a minor student. Detectives have found no evidence to suggest that there other victims, or that any illegal activity occurred on campus or on FUSD property.

Fresno Unified Superintendant Michael Hanson stated:
“As we all know there have been incidents throughout the state of teachers taking advantage of the student/teacher relationship. Unfortunately, we have learned of an alleged inappropriate relationship between a teacher and student in our own district. Words cannot describe my deep disappointment in this alleged breach of teacher/student relationship. We have acted swiftly in taking the appropriate action in removing the teacher from the classroom and the school while these allegations are being investigated. The overwhelming majority of our employees are working hard every day to assure the success of our students and our work will not be derailed by these allegations. We are cooperating fully with law enforcement.”
