FRESNO COUNTY - Sheriff’s detectives are asking for the public’s help in locating a Fresno man wanted for questioning in the disappearance of 16 year old Sammy Mercado.  Detectives are looking for 21 year old Ernie Chanmany.

Chanmany has been identified as one of the subjects possibly involved in Mercado’s disappearance.  He is described as a Lao male, 5-6/ 135 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Detectives are also looking for two vehicles associated with Chanmany.  The first is described as a 1995 Dodge Ram extended cab 4X4 pick-up truck, with CA license #54467A1.  It is emerald green in color with silver or white along the bottom portion of the body.  It is lifted with big tires and black rims.  The second vehicle is described as a 1997 Dodge 1500 extended cab pick-up truck, red in color, with CA license #4HPU643.

This past Thursday morning, Mercado and two other subjects arrived at an outdoor marijuana grow located on the southwest corner of Annadale & Willow, with the intent to steal some of the plants.  As Mercado exited their car, two Asian males exited a homemade hut on the property located approximately 80 yards away.  One of the Asian males started shooting at Mercado and their vehicle.  The two subjects in the car fled, leaving Mercado behind.  They last saw him lying on the ground next to the marijuana grow.  The two returned later to try and find him but could not.

Evidence recovered at the scene revealed that Mercado was possibly shot or injured, and that a firearm was used.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Chanmany or the two vehicles, are asked to contact the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office at 488-3111, or CrimeStoppers at 498-STOP(7867).
