WATSONVILLE - For the last ten years River Park and the leagues from Turlock would battle it out in the final games of the district 10 all star tournaments. Then early this year Little League International decided to split up district 10 in the Central Valley. Then they split up section 6. This sent Turlock to district 73 in section 6 and River Park and district 10 to section 7.

Now if River Park was going to meet their rivals from Turlock it would have to be in a division (state) tournament. Saturday the 11's met up in Watsonville's division tournament and there is a chance the 12's could face each other in the 12 year-old division tournament in Fremont some time this week.

11 Year Old Tournament

Saturday was a great day for Jack Winn as he clubbed two home runs to carry the River Park 11 year-old All Stars to a 15-2 victory over their former district 10 rival Turlock American at the Watsonville all star tournament.

River Park blew out Turlock American 11's thanks to fourteen hits, including six extra base hits. The team from Fresno scored seven runs in the sixth on a solo home run by Winn, a three-run home run by Wayne Rutledge, a solo home run by RJ Bernal, and a two-run home run by Trevor Fondtain.

River Park hit five home runs in the win. Additional home runs came when Winn homered in the second and sixth innings.

River Park's Bernal, Winn, Rutledge and Fondtain combined for eight hits and 11 RBIs.

Five relief pitchers didn't loosen their grasp on the win as they finished off the game. Kyle Moats faced two batters in relief, while Garrett Fuller managed to record two outs to aid the victory.

Fresno didn't relinquish the lead after scoring three runs in the second inning when it scored on a two-run home run by Winn and an RBI single by Fondtain.

River Park tacked on another five runs in the fourth. Moats started the inning with a single, plating Bernal. That was followed up by Mikell Chavez's single, scoring Fuller.

River Park advances in the winners bracket to a Monday night game against Almaden North from district 12. The winner of that game advances to Wednesday's semi-final game.

12 Year Old Tournament
In the Fremont tournament for the twelve year olds River Park 12's blew out Sutter Butte 10-2 on Saturday after pouring on seven runs in the third inning.

River Park hit three home runs in the win. Home runs came when Treston Bumatay homered in the second inning, JD Schramm homered in the third inning, and Adrian Martinez homered in the fourth inning. Schramm racked up two RBIs on two hits for River Park. He homered in the third inning and singled in the fourth inning.

River Park advances in the winners bracket to play again Monday at 5pm.The twelve year old team from Turlock National got skunked by Petaluma National 17-0. Turlock National plays the loser of Monday's game on Tuesday at 5pm.

In the 10 year old tournament in Sacramento, Reedley lost 16-15 to Fairfield Atlantic in the opening round. They play again today in the elimination bracket against Los Gatos at 4pm.
