Chowchilla - The 2012 Spring Festival Parade stepped off Saturday morning on Robertson Boulevard. Bands from around the Valley as well as local groups and businesses rode floats of tissue paper in front of the large crowds that lined the street. The only hiccup in the parade was the ten minute delay caused by the Chowchilla High Marching Band at the very beginning. Other than that the event went off without a hitch.

Following the parade the community made their way to the fair grounds for a deep pit barbeque. Over 200 volunteers prepared ten thousand pounds of beef, one thousands pounds of beans and salad for a record number of diners.

The Spring Festival Parade and Barbeque began as a homecoming parade for the returning World War II veterans in 1946. This yearly event has continued ever since. The parade and barbeque is always held on Armed Forces Day.

Later that night Morgan Miller was crowned the 2012 Spring Festival Queen. Miss. Miller is the daughter of Stacey Miller and attends Chowchilla Union High School where she is a junior. Miller won the crown by selling the most tickets to the barbeque.

Mrs. Velma Hansen were named Grand Marshals of the parade. She has been a resident of Madera County since 1925
