Lincoln Elementary Receives Title I Academic Achievement Award

Madera Online: You've Heard All The Rumors

Now See For Yourself What All The Fuss is About

MADERA - Lincoln Elementary of the Madera Unified School District has been named a Title I Academic Achievement Award winner by State Superintendent for Public Instruction, Jack O’Connell.

Lincoln was one of only 200 schools in the state to receive a Title I Achieving Award. It is the fourth year in a row Lincoln has been so honored.

Lincoln and the other Title I Achievement Award winners will all be recognized at a special ceremony held in conjunction with the California Title I Conference on April 27-28 in Anaheim.

The Title I Academic Achievement Award is given only to schools receiving federal Title I funds as authorized by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. To be eligible for the Title I Schoolwide Program, a school must enroll 40 percent or more of socio-economically disadvantaged students.

To meet the criteria for this distinction, the school must demonstrate that all students are making significant progress toward proficiency on California’s academic content standards. Additionally, the school’s socioeconomically disadvantaged students must have doubled the achievement targets set for them for two consecutive years. Schools must also have met their Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) goals for two years in a row.
Title I is a part of the federal No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 and is the single largest federal educational program for K-12 public education. Of the more than 9,000 schools in California, more than 6,000 of them participate in the Title I program.

“The staff and administration at Lincoln Elementary have so much to be proud of,” said Madera Unified Superintendent John Stafford. “To earn this award four straight years is quite an achievement, and it’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire Lincoln staff. As a superintendent, I offer them my highest congratulations.”

Lincoln Elementary posted the second-best score on the Academic Performance Index (API) of all MUSD schools. It has recorded an API of over 800 for two years in a row. A score of 800 is considered the goal by all schools in the state.
