Chowchilla –The 2008 Chowchilla-Madera County Fair had “Fun in the Sun!”  The community gathered for four fun-filled days and enjoyed lots of new entertainment, food, animals, rides and record breaking heat.

Entertainment returned every day on the HANK FM Stage and the Rotary Tent Stage.  The 2nd Annual Super Star Karaoke Contest was very popular with fair goers.  Every night the tent was packed to see who would move on to the next level and compete for the ultimate prize.  The winner, Sandy Smith of Merced, won $200 courtesy of Chowchilla-Madera County Fair and a 1 night stay in Monterey and four passes to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk compliments of Merced Radio.  The second place winner, Marcus Crawford of Chowchilla won $100 and third place went to Jeff Carlton, who won $50.  Congratulations to all the winners and thank you for all of your participation.

The Fair also featured more kid’s entertainment with the return of the popular Kid’s Tractor Pedal Pulls featuring the Sunflower Saddle Ranch.  The Mitchell Marionettes returned as well, accompanied with the Cowboys from Fables of the West, Hypnotist Yvette Stone and a new addition of “The Traveling Game Show” and Jeremy the Juggler.  On Sunday, Big Daddy Weave performed on the Lions Park Stage, which was greatly attended.

The grandstands entertainment brought auto car racing on Friday, which featured the “Old Timers”.  They raced to their hearts content with no spills, but lots of thrills.  Saturday brought back the Humpz N’ Hornz Bull Bash sponsored by Table Mountain Casino.  Bulls were thrashing and cowboys were ridin’.  Sunday, the Destruction Derby brought 16 cars and 20 drivers.  Mud was flying everywhere and with the heat, the crowd didn’t mind getting wet.

The Chowchilla-Madera County Fair had lots of great additions this year.  The Fair featured a scavenger hunt in local businesses downtown, where you could find two free admission tickets to the 2008 Fair.  Johnston’s Amusements brought back the ever popular wristband, but featured it every day versus Kids Day only.  Bringing the wristbands back increased the Fair attendance, as well as the carnival.

The Chowchilla-Madera County Fair would like to thank the community for participating and helping make the Fair a success.  We would also like to thank all of our sponsors, which make it possible to bring the Fair to Chowchilla.  Thank you and we will see you in 2009!
