Fresno Food Expo Features 28 Innovative New Products as Part of Awards Program Print E-mail

FRESNO - The 2017 Fresno Food Expo is excited to debut 28 innovative new products, varietals and packaging concepts that were entered into the New Product Awards from 26 different Central California businesses. Now in its fifth year, the New Product Awards, presented by Baker Peterson Franklin CPA, LLP, have become a strategic opportunity for participating businesses to launch new products in front of buyers, securing product placement in stores, restaurants and foodservice distribution channels, plus get immediate test consumer marketplace feedback.

To date more than 160 new products have been entered into the Fresno Food Expo New Product Awards. This year’s products range from cold brew coffee milk and handcrafted vodka to sour strawberry-flavored golden raisins and almond butter.

ACLU Sues Madera County for Violating Open Meetings Law Print E-mail

SAN FRANCISCO —The American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California today sued the Madera County Board of Supervisors for violating California’s open public meetings law, the Ralph M. Brown Act, in changing immigration-related policy behind closed doors under the guise of making a personnel evaluation.

The lawsuit charges that Madera County supervisors failed to give proper public notice before they adopted significant changes to the way the county’s jail interfaces with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Made without public input, the decision came in a closed, non-public session, without putting the matter on the agenda or disclosing what the board was discussing.

Madera County Opens Landfill to Aid in Heat Related Cattle Deaths Print E-mail

MADERA - Valley-wide heat waves resulting in higher mortality rates among cattle and mechanical issues at the rendering facility in Kerman have prompted several area counties to declare states of emergencies that would allow for disposal of carcasses in ways other than transporting them to the rendering facility.

While Madera County has not seen higher cattle deaths that would qualify for an emergency, its landfill located in Fairmead is permitted by the State Water Board and Cal Recycle to accept carcasses for disposal, according to Alan Davis, general manager for Caglia Environmental, the county’s landfill operator.

MADERA - Madera Fair is “Your Fair since 1937!”  For 80 years now, Madera Fair remains to be a county hub for agricultural display and education in addition to providing fun, family entertainment to cap the summer.  This year, the fun family entertainment will not be in short supply as Madera Fair announces for the first time, an ALL FREE festival concert venue!  With paid gate admission guests can enjoy the entertainment at Madera Fair’s Table Mountain Concert Series presented by Tecate Light all four nights of the Fair.

Thursday, September 7th, the concert series kicks-off with Gary Allan delivering his signature blend of smoldering vocals, rebellious lyrics and a raucous live performance at 7:30 pm.  The concert “Celebration” continues Friday, September 8th at 8:00 pm with the bulletproof funk and jazzy arrangements of Kool and the Gang, who’ve performed continuously for the past 43 years.

District Attorney Files Involuntary Manslaughter Charges Against Fresno Sheriff Detective Print E-mail

FRESNO - The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office filed a charge of Involuntary Manslaughter with an enhancement for the personal use of a firearm Friday against Fresno County Sheriff’s Office Detective Jared Mullis.

These charges arise out of the October 31, 2016 fatal shooting of Fresno County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Rod Lucas. This complaint was filed after a thorough investigation of the shooting.
Prior to the complaint being filed in Fresno County Superior Court, District Attorney Lisa A. Smittcamp met with the family of Sgt. Lucas to advise them that criminal charges were forthcoming.
