City of Madera Celebrates

Family Fun and Fireworks for the Fourth

Madera - Saturday, July 4, a day of good old fashion family fun, concluding with a wonderful display of fireworks is planned during the city’s annual Independence Day Celebration at Madera Municipal Golf Course, corner of Road 23 and Avenue 17.

Beginning at 5 p.m. families are invited to the golf course for a free and fun evening prior to the aerial light show. Parking is also free, but donations to keep the firework show going in future years will be accepted. There will be music by a D.J., games and contests including sack races, 3-legged races, a slippery watermelon race and more. Snow cones, water and Kettle Korn will be offered and other food items will be available from the golf course restaurant at minimal cost. A putting course and contest will also be held.

Matriarch of the Pistoresi Family, Mary Alice Pistoesi Passes at 74
Mary Alice Pistoresi  lived her entire life in Madera until peacefully passing away on June 19, 2009. Mary graduated from Madera Union High School in 1935 then later obtained a degree in court reporting. She was the first woman court reporter for the counties of Madera and Fresno. Her office was located on the second floor of what is now known as the Court House Museum on Yosemite Avenue in Madera. In 1941 she married her husband of 60 years, Emilio A. Pistoresi, founder of Pistoresi Chrysler Dodge Jeep. More
Schoettler Tire Wins City Little League Champion
Schoettler Tire dominated the Breakfast Lions of the National League in the Madera Little League City Championship Saturday night. The final score was 11-2. Tuesday night Schoettler was eliminated from the District Ten Tournament of Champions by Chowchilla in a nine inning 4-3 loss.

Madera High's 112th Class Graduates
The 112th graduating class of Madera High School received their diplomas Friday night at Memorial Stadium. The class of 384, the smallest MHS class since 1997, now heads off to work or collage. Some with scholarship and plans, others without and wondering what the future holds for them.

Jazmine Jackson Named 2009 Miss Madera County
To kick off the 2008 Madera County Fair, Miss and Little Miss Madera County were selected Wednesday night at the fairs park stage. The annual pageant was moved from the Little Theater to the outdoor stage because of the destruction of the Clark Building by for a few months back. This year Madera's own Jazmine Jackson was awarded the honor of representing the county for the next year. Jackson also won the talent competition for this year's pageant.
